“From as far back as I can remember I have been drawn to create from the place of intuition and form it into reality”
The art forms Cody has come to share are clearly inspired by nature as well as the place from within. The viewer is welcomed into a space where a sense of contemplation and joy are nourished. A certain interest in gathering materials from the wild of minerals, earth, wood and stone began early on for Cody Cloud and has not left him. At around the age of eleven he was immersed with his father in excavation earth work and taught the basics of metal fabrication from his grandfather. The next medium he would further learn came through several years of high school woodshop. Of that time period and prior Cody was fortunate enough to both experience life in bustling Southern California and the rural desert of Arizona.
Later in life other mediums and trades continued to be embraced by Cody and incorporated into his work. Out of high school he worked in several construction fields and manufacturing. After those few years he was introduced to artificial turf in it’s popularity at the time to drought tolerant landscapes in California. Soon after at twenty two Cody started his own landscape construction business and began creating outdoor spaces as a career. From that point to now he has developed well over fifty landscape projects along with work in the interior realm of both residential and commercial spaces.
To round out the pallet of mediums and trades of interest he began studying ceramics in Sedona, Arizona as a hand builder. Simultaneously he learned the basic principles of stained glass from several local teachers. At the age of twenty six Cody was first shown in a gallery with works in ceramics and wood sculpture. At twenty eight he was awarded his first commission for a public sculpture at the historic Phoenix Country Club in Arizona. That sculpture would then set the stage for the next three years of sculpture commissions in steel and glass medium throughout the state.
In continuing on his path as an artist he moved to Colorado at thirty. There Cody was invited to take part in several shared exhibitions as well as individual. The collaborative element though has been especially present in commissioned works primarily with two of his now close friends trained in glass blowing. At this juncture in life Cody continues to create in the realm of landscape design and development making use of his metal working and carpentry as well, as they marry into both soil and home. Being able to bridge his passion for sculpture and innovative elements that add value to projects with other artists is a gift he’s found in the craft along the way.
As for today Cody continues to explore what he feels called to with the people and places where the moment aligns. Stepping further into other realms including agriculture and community space in years recent. The ever expanding path is one that Cody has come to recognize along with its challenge and gift to the human experience. He knows it to be true that each of us come here with a unique signature our own, to share and inspire one another to create.
